The Daddy Long Legs
Voice Design
Christopher Doyle:

The Daddy Long Legs is an extremely rare and special fortified wine, making it one of Australia’s most expensive fortifieds. Its production is limited to the contents of only two remaining barrels set aside for over 40 years, making its quantity limited and its quality exceptional. The barrel shed that housed the wine is inhabited by hundreds of ‘Daddy Long Leg’ spiders who have kept a watchful eye over these barrels for decades. Incredible idea and next level production by Voice Design.

2017 AGDA Awards
Christopher Doyle:

Last weekend saw Canberra host the 2017 AGDA Awards. While there was a selection of well-deserved wins for some incredible work there was also, in my opinion, a stack of amazing work that was not recognised. Here’s a small selection of work that didn’t win and left me scratching my head. Vista by Voice Design, Dasher + Fisher by Co-Partnership, Bare Witness by RE, Shortys by The Colour Club, Shop Around by Toko and D’Angelo Coffee by Band.

Hiker
Christopher Doyle:

The AGDA Awards finalists have just been announced in Australia and there is a load of excellent work on show, like this wonderful identity for Hiker, a hiking podcast, by Ed. Such a lovely, simple idea based in a truth. I also love the vertical lockup. Minimum moves, maximum impact.

Who Gives a Crap
Christopher Doyle:

Who Gives A Crap is an eco-friendly toilet paper company that donates 50% of it’s profits to help build toilets for those in need. It was launched in 2012 and has already donated over $428,500 to help fund sanitation projects in developing countries.

For Christmas this year they commissioned a range from the Jacky Winter Group, with 12 Australian artists contributing designs. The results are a burst of colour and fun in an otherwise crappy category (zing!). Great name, great cause, great design.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
Manual
Christopher Doyle:

I’m really enjoying this identity for the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts by Manual.

The core of the identity is a container device (that houses the YBCA acronym) that takes its shape from the Center’s geographic position. The device is paired with bold typography, playful messaging, imagery and bright colours and there’s an enormous amount of flex and variation ensuring each application feels unique, energetic and fresh.

Digital Press Moving / Christmas Card
Garbett Design
Christopher Doyle:

I love this recent moving / Christmas card by Garbett Design for Sydney printing company Digital Press. The story goes that the client asked for a moving card and designer Paul Garbett realised that the time of year presented an opportunity to combine that brief with the need for a company Christmas card. A beautifully simple idea, perfectly executed.

Storey Floors
The Company You Keep
Christopher Doyle:

I love this brand identity for Storey Floors by The Company You Keep. Storey Floors is a high-end oak floor manufacturer with a unique workflow allowing for a collaborative approach to production and design. TCYK were responsible for the naming and identity work. A simple, clever name and beautiful word mark that moves.
